FAMILY HISTORY

Several members of the Royton Local History Society have formed a specific group devoted to researching their family backgrounds.

The group is headed by Philip Ellis who has considerable experience in this interesting and absorbing field.

This page has been compiled to help those wishing to research their family members who have lived in Royton.

Registration Records

    The Register Office covering the Royton area is Oldham.

Probate Records

For probate purposes prior to 1858, Royton was in the Archdeaconry of Chester, in the Diocese of Chester. The original Lancashire wills for the Archdeaconry of Chester are held at the Lancashire Record Office.
